Peter Battis, EdD
Dr. Battis began training individuals and groups in stress management in 1969. He completed his Masters degree at Boston University in 1975 and received his Doctorate in 1981 from Boston University's Counseling and Humanistic Studies program. In 1987 he completed a certificate program in Health Care Management at the Boston University School of Management. From 1981-1985 he was Assistant Director of Inpatient Psychiatry at North Shore Children's Hospital in Salem, MA and was Director of Education and Training from 1985-1987 at the same facility. In 1987 he became Director of two mental health programs in Lowell, MA and in 1990 moved to North Carolina, managing the community mental health center for Chatham County until 1996. Dr. Battis taught psychology at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell and had adjunct faculty appointment at Boston University's School of Medicine and the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology, and the Antioch College Graduate School. Dr. Battis has been trained by Dr. Edward De Bono in creative problem-solving, by Jon Kabat-Zinn and Herbert Benson in stress management, and has done advanced training in marital therapy with John Gottman, PhD. He has provided training and consultation to dozens of organizations in the areas of conflict resolution, team building, communication skills, stress management, and creativity. Clients in the Triangle have included the US Environmental Protection Agency, Intelligent Information Systems, the National Institutes for Environmental Health Science, the Army Research Office, and Durham County Government.
